Detroit Wedding Photo | Wedding Photo Do's & Don'ts

Detroit Wedding Photo has put together a list of our top Wedding Photo Do's & Don'ts for you! As with our other articles, we've tried to keep it compact and to the point because we know how busy you are with planning all of your wedding festivities. Our absolute top "Do" is to choose your wedding photographer very carefully, and you may want to take a look at one of Detroit Wedding Photo's previous pages, Choosing a Photographer, via the links above. Once you've chosen yours, the Do's & Don'ts below will serve you very well!

Do Create a Wish List. Other than choosing a photographer carefully, this is Detroit Wedding Photo's top recommendation! If you've been dreaming of your wedding day all your life, you've likely got a few photographic shots in mind that you simply must have. Sit down with your husband-to-be or bride-to-be and make a list of those must-have shots to present to your photographer. If you don't, you'll wish you did. Get those essential shots written down so you don't forget them.

Don't Fear the Candid Shot. In all the rush to capture all those must-have shots, you might spend all your time posing and miss those natural shots that really put life into your wedding album. Certainly take the time to pose for the shots that are so important to you, but then relax and let the day and evening happen. A great photographer will capture all those moments in the most magical way.

Do Look at Previous Venue Photos. You can certainly get some great ideas for photos at your particular venue by looking at the photos that other happy couples have taken on their wedding day there. Begin by looking online, and if you don't find anything there, you can ask the people who work there or even ask your photographer to help you track some down. They may have even taken some there themselves previously!

Don't Photograph at Noon. Outdoor photographs at noon are an absolute no-go. Direct sun from above is not the glow that you'd think it might be! Mid-morning or mid-afternoon will create the sun-kissed (and not sun-blinded) look that you're after.

Do Give the Photographer a Schedule. You wouldn't want your photographer to show up at the wrong time or to lose their way to the reception, so make sure to give them a comprehensive list of all of the wedding destinations as well as the times that you want them to be there. It's not out of the question to ask them to arrive early to the first location.

Don't Sweat It! Literally! Your wedding day is a beautiful occasion, but it can also be rushed and stressful, and it might even be a hot day, if you're getting married in the summer. You certainly don't want to have a shiny face in your wedding photos (that goes for the groom as well as the bride!), so bring plenty of tissues to blot and powder to brush on throughout the day and night. You'll be glad you did!

All of us at Detroit Wedding Photo hope that you take the tips above and put them to use in creating your dream wedding album. Next up, Top Detroit Photographers as chosen by Detroit Wedding Photo!
